Falling lifted me up

Yesterday something wonderful and frightening happened to me. Rae had a friend over celebrating her birthday and she needed to go to the store for something. When we got there I decided to walk along the curb so as not to get all muddy. However I lost my balance and took the hardest fall I have had since I was pregnant with Jerry. I landed on my backside, back and right arm with full force. Both girls quickly came to my side and helped me up. But what was miraculous to me was the fact that I didn't hurt my tail bone or back whatsoever. I hurt my arm pretty good but nothing, amazingly was broken.

My tail bone and back should be really sore, I should have broke something, but My Guardian Angels came to my side once again and protected my spine and my arm, unfortunately my ego wasn't protected...:) It was a Testimony builder for me. Lately I have been studying the scriptures including the Bible, reading out of 2 really good books and praying more intently, sincerely and fervently than I have in years. That morning I prayed for the safety of my husband and kids and forgot to pray for my own, but Heavenly Father protected me too. I am so thankful for the guidance and protection He has given me. It is nothing short of a miracle to me what had taken place. To others it may sound trivial and of little importance or maybe even silly, but not to me. I know what it could have done to me and I am well even with a very sore arm and wrist, I couldn't be more thankful than I am right now.

Looking for the good

I thought that Pres. Uchtdorf explains this better than I could. How true this is!

While looking for a new home, a young Latter-day Saint couple talked to potential neighbors about the neighborhood and the schools in the area.

One woman they spoke to said of the school her children were attending: “This is the most incredible place! The principal is a wonderful and good man; the teachers are well qualified, kind, and friendly. I am so pleased that our children can attend this wonderful school. You’ll love it here!”

A different woman said of her children’s school: “It’s a terrible place. The principal is self-absorbed; the teachers are unqualified, rude, and unfriendly. If I could afford to move out of this area, I’d do it in a heartbeat!”

The interesting thing was that both women were speaking about the same principal, the same teachers, and the same school.

Have you ever noticed that people can usually find whatever they are looking for? Look hard enough, and you can discover both good and bad in almost anyone and anything. People have done the same with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since its beginning. Those who look for the good will find a kind and compassionate people—a people who love the Lord and desire to serve Him and bless the lives of their fellowman. But it is also true that those who look for the bad will certainly find things that are not so ideal.

Unfortunately, at times this happens even within the Church. There is no end to the creativity, ingenuity, and tenacity of those who look for reasons to criticize. They cannot seem to release their grip on grudges. They gossip and find fault with others. They nurse wounds for decades, taking every opportunity to tear down and demean others. This is not pleasing to the Lord, “for where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work” (James 3:16).

President George Q. Cannon (1827–1901) knew President Brigham Young (1801–77) well, working closely with him for many years, both as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and as his counselor in the First Presidency. After the death of President Young, President Cannon wrote in his journal: “I never criticized or found fault with [Brigham Young’s] conduct, his counsel or his teachings at any time in my heart, much less in my words or actions. This is a pleasure to me now. The thought that ever was with me was: If I criticize or find fault with, or judge Brother Brigham, how far shall I go; if I commence, where shall I stop? I dared not to trust myself in such a course. I knew that apostasy frequently resulted from the indulgence of the spirit of criticizing and faultfinding. Others, of greater strength, wisdom and experience than myself, might do many things and escape evil consequences which I dare not do.”1

President Cannon’s powerful counsel is something we members of the Church should consider with great care. The word of God admonishes the followers of Christ to be “pure, … peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” For those who make peace, “the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace” (James 3:17, 18).

We have a choice. We can seek for the bad in others. Or we can make peace and work to extend to others the understanding, fairness, and forgiveness we so desperately desire for ourselves. It is our choice; for whatever we seek, that we will certainly find.

Hope

The Importance of Hope

Hope is one leg of a three-legged stool, together with faith and charity. These three stabilize our lives regardless of the rough or uneven surfaces we might encounter at the time. The scriptures are clear and certain about the importance of hope. The Apostle Paul taught that the scriptures were written to the end that we “might have hope.”1

Hope has the power to fill our lives with happiness.2 Its absence—when this desire of our heart is delayed—can make “the heart sick.”3

Hope is a gift of the Spirit.4 It is a hope that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the power of His Resurrection, we shall be raised unto life eternal and this because of our faith in the Savior.5 This kind of hope is both a principle of promise as well as a commandment,6 and, as with all commandments, we have the responsibility to make it an active part of our lives and overcome the temptation to lose hope. Hope in our Heavenly Father’s merciful plan of happiness leads to peace,7 mercy,8 rejoicing,9 and gladness.10 The hope of salvation is like a protective helmet;11 it is the foundation of our faith12 and an anchor to our souls.13

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Second Counselor in the First Presidency

I am working at increasing my hope every day.

A new hope is being born within me. For well over a year now we were approached by a friend to go into business with him training bomb dogs. He would be in charge of the legal side and acquiring the license and the like, Ross would be doing the training. Now the license is in place and Ross picked up his first dog today to begin the training! I am so excited!!
I am so grateful for this wonderful blessing to be happening in our lives right now. We really need something... especially with Ross being laid off this week and looks like next week as well. I know that if we but put our complete faith and trust in the Lord that He will take care of us and everything will work out better than we hoped it to be!

Tomorrow morning we have a guy coming out to tune my great-grandmother's upright piano! It is well over a hundred years old and is in really good condition, now we just need to find someone that Rae, Jerry and I can take lessons from. I am so thrilled and grateful for this blessing. I love music. I don't have musical talents other than recognizing it when I hear it, but I want to learn how to play and my daughter is good at playing by ear and I want to further hers and Jerry's talents.

I am so thankful for the hope that I have in my Savior and Heavenly Father. I know that He knows our hearts and needs and that we have no need to worry when our hope is placed in the right things.

Words of Wisdom from some of my favorite movies...

Ross and I watched Facing the Giants again last night. I just love that movie! It is very inspiring and also makes you think. At least it does for me.

Here is just a few things that were talked about while making this film. I hope you enjoy these.

“You can’t judge others by their actions and yourself by your intentions.” A lot of people say, “One day I’m going to do something great for God.” And they end up on a deathbed saying, “I don’t know what I did, and I’m not sure why I was here.”

It’s easy to think the next job, the next promotion, the next car, will make me content. But we won’t find contentment in the things we get. We’ll find it in how we give.

“We determine to glorify God no matter the outcome. He may choose to fulfill our hopes or to take us down a different path. Remember, life is not about us and what we want. It’s about him and what he wants. Having desires that line up with God’s is the best place to be.”

From the Movie Fireproof

Marriage isn't fireproof.
Michael Simmons: Fireproof doesn't mean the fire will never come. It means when the fire comes that you will be able to withstand it
.

This one is from the Movie Forever Strong

The Greatest Victories are Born in the Heart

“I’m more interested in turning out champion boys than champion teams.”

I just love these. I want to be better every day. There is so much I want to work on and do better at. It is good to be inspired I just need to put those words into actions!

Did you know??

Did you know that my sweet husband buys, breeds and raises Pigeons? After all, what would be the use of training hunting dogs without birds to train with? LOL. He has a pen set aside just for kill birds. He uses his homing pigeons to train with for helping the dogs to learn to point.

There is a breeder here in Meridian that has created a special breed known as "frosts". They are the most beautiful pigeon we have seen. I don't have a picture of one, they aren't that easy to take pictures...

We love our pigeons and I thought it would be fun to post some interesting facts that I had no clue about! I hope you enjoy!

•Pigeon Intelligence:

◦The pigeon can recognize all 26 letters of the English language.

◦They can be taught relatively complex actions and response sequences, and can learn to make responses in different sequences.

◦In scientific tests pigeons have been found to be able to differentiate between photographs and even between two different human beings in a photograph.

◦A study conducted at Keio University in Japan demonstrated that pigeons could learn to distinguish between a Van Gogh and a Chagall paintings, based on multiple feature cues, such as color and pattern.

◦Pigeons can remember large numbers of individual images for a long time, for example hundreds of images for periods of several years.

• Life-saving Pigeons: The pigeon have far better eyesight than humans and even though they can see color in the same way that humans do, pigeons can also see ultra-violet - a part of the spectrum that humans cannot see. They can also learn relatively complex actions and response sequences and can be taught to make responses in different sequences. These sets of skills were utilized to save thousands of people lost at sea and during numerous rescue missions during times of war (World Wars I and II). Please click on this link for more info.

Pigeons and Doves are in the same family.. so pretty!

The invisible (and visible!) power of magnets

I have always been fascinated by the invisible force of magnetism. How something that can't be seen can be so powerful. And what is alot of fun is to turn them against one another and no matter how hard you try, they will never come together, in fact the other goes in the opposite direction trying to get away. I guess that is how we are as humans. No one likes to be forced to do something, especially against their will. And once turned against the other person, by trying to go after them and trying to change or force them, they will go in the opposite direction.

However if you stop trying to force something upon someone and you lovingly move towards them and invite them back with the pure love of Christ, and express a sincere apology, eventually they will return.

I witnessed another cause of magnets today. Brayden was having fun playing with a very strong magnet of Jerry's... however to my surprise I didn't know what he had tried it on. Then he turns the tv on and I see that a kid's face was purple, then green on another part of the screen...awww.. it hit me...He used it on the tv. Now I can't be mad at him for he didn't know and I had told him not to use it on the computer but forgot to mention the tv.. He was curious... like his favorite cartoon character, Curious George. Now he knows and I know what I should do next time. Lesson's learned:)

Why Mom?...

So some really good news! Ross and I were able to find separate twin adjustable beds for an amazing deal! The night we went to put my bed in our bedroom ( I have been sleeping in the boys' room for 4 months and without my hubby because I am no longer able to sleep in a flat bed), Brayden asked why we are putting that bed into our room.

Daddy answered... "So Mom can sleep next to Daddy again." Brayden responded so innocently.."Mom is supposed to sleep next to me.. not you daddy." Why can't she sleep in my room?" Daddy replied... "Because Mom is supposed to sleep in Daddy's room." It took him quite awhile to be ok with Mom sleeping in Daddy's room, but it was so cute because he was so serious about it.

6 Weeks! I have come a long way and have much to be thankful for!

6 weeks ago tonight I had pancreatitis. 5 weeks ago I found out my numbers were headed back up so we had a family fast to know what to do. I received inspiration on what I should do and have stuck with it ever since. I don't juice as much as I did but here are the changes I have made:

No sugar. That means no sweets, anything that has high fructose corn syrup and all of its hidden names. I have had healthy cereal that has flax and pumpkin seeds in it with no added sugar. I have replaced that nasty white substance with Agave and Truvia and now have flavored Stevia extract coming.

No white flour at all!! Not even any bread, it bothers me. So I have been grinding up my own almond flour and have made yummy things with it!

No dairy. Oh, I had 2 slices of Provolone Cheese 3 weeks ago and one cheese stick because it was used in an emergency when sugar levels were tooo low. But that is all. No butter, Milk...

I use Bragg's Liquid Aminos in place of Soy sauce and make the best marinade! I get asked to give the recipe to all who try it... and Ross loves it!!

I have had lots of yummy and very healthy smoothies with our new BlendTec. I love it!!!

So.. I am doing great!! Its about time and I am so thankful for everything anand everyone for your love and prayers and service!!

Yummy Biscuit Recipe (don't let anyone know they are good for you!)

So I just made these today and yes I even made my victims be the first ones to try it.. ha ha ha! I had friends over for lunch and thought I should try a new recipe on them... what better way to do it? LOL!

Well here it is and they were gone in a flash!

1. Cut cold fat (butter or shortening) into dry ingredients with the tines of your fork, rotating the bowl around with your other hand until the mixture has pea-sized chunks throughout. You could also use a pastry blender, in which case you probably don't need to read these instructions.

2. Chill mixture in the fridge for 5-10 minutes or as long as you can stand it. The longer the better. The more the fat can get cold and hard, the puffier your biscuits will be. Remember that!

3. Separate the egg yolks from the whites (using the shell halves to tip the yolk back and forth a few times). Reserve yolks (save all that creamy goodness for ice cream or homemade mayo!) and whisk egg whites with a fork in a bowl for 20 seconds, until no longer stringy and gloopy. You just want 'em a little foamy.

4. Remove mixture from fridge and whisk in the egg whites for a couple of seconds, breaking up any massive chunks in the dough with your whisk or fork. It'll be an extremely runny dough with chunks of the almond mixture. Pour it into greased foil-lined ramekins/nonstick muffin cups/a muffin top pan and get that sucker in the hot oven before the fat can even THINK about softening!

Ingredients:
1 and 1/2 tablespoons of unsalted organic butter or nonhydrogenated shortening
1 cup plus two tablespoons of finely ground almond flour
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
3/4 teaspoon aluminum-free baking powder
4 egg whites

(Amber's Notes...) When you mix the egg whites in, I added between 1 and 2 TBSP of Agave... YUM!
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Any guesses?

Just wondering if you knew our family well enough to guess who this is? I know it is kinda obvious but thought it might be fun to see what you think!!

(it might not be who you think it is :))
